Daniel Lewis was born around horses.. His mother is a tremendous rider who taught Daniel alot about loving and respecting horses.. Daniel was riding at a young age, and always had horses dogs, chickens goats etc around growing up..
Quarter Horses were always a part of Daniel's life.. Starting off with ex race horse Sandy and the Quarter Horse Morgan cross Red Horse.. And continued with Daniel's mom buying him Zippy in 1998.. Daniel has had many intersts in the world of horses..
In Daniel's freshman year of high school he started going to Central Florida were he met up with his grandmas cousin Linda Pastor of Burning Tree Farms.. Daniel was soon working to help his aunt and uncle and started learning more and more about the bloodlines.. He also started a summer ineternship at Hartley/De Renzo.. where he learned to gallope and had the chances to work with top horses Xtra Heat, Silver Charm, and many others to numerous to name.. He also worked with and had an integral part of developing leading sire Successful Appeal.. As well as working with top young sires Tiger Ridge and Songandaprayer.. After Graduating from high school daniel was offered a full time position at Hartley/De Renzo and there partner Walmac International.. After four years there Daniel moved on yet maintains a close friendship to the HD family..
He then moved too the sport horse world.. Becoming Stable Manager at Amik Run Equestrian center.. This farm differs from working in an office as a bloodstock assistant.. First it was jumpers and dressage horses, and many horses were rescue animals and had issues that need patience and time to get by.. Daniel was also an instructor in the summer camps speaking about abuse in many different areas of the equine community.. as well as teaching students about feeding, riding, tack, etc.. He worked here for 1 year leaving the farm when they hit financial trouble.. However he made wonderful friends and many will always be a major part of his life: Connie, Noka, PJ, John, Lori Mac, etc.. Daniel learned about holistic care, accupuncture and massage, bowen treatments, and so many others.. and fully believes it can help a horse when other things seem to be failing..
Lori called Daniel one sunday and said i have a job do you want it.. Of course Daniel said yes.. and that was the beginning of a 5 year career at Summerfield Sales.. Daniel started out as a yearling manager grooming and getting a select group of 30 on the farm ready for sales through out the country.. The first group to go to the auction were sold at a New York bred sale at Saratoga.. Daniel sent 7 up there sold 6 and had the sale topper in his first ever consignement for Summerfield.. ALmost 52% of the yearlings Daniel sold went on and won races at two years of age.. A remarkable feat.. Daniel thru the years went from yearling manger to assistant manger to broodmare manager to Farm manager in a short time.. In the 5 years that Summerfield was under hsi supervision only 1 horse was put down and that was an older mare that needed to be.. And that is out of the 200 or so horses that went thru his hands.. Daniel left Summerfield for a year, and then was hired back to become a part time assistant in the office.. He left Summerfield after 2 more years and is know on to his own breeding operation..
Daniel is a complete package, able to notice small details in your horses, he is a kind gentle horsemen, who does not believe the sterotypes that so many do.. He LOVES horses paints, drafts, ponies, mules donkeys.. etc. He has an uncany ability to work well with any type of horse. has the patience and compasion to work with victims of abuse, and has a tough hand on horses that need someone to stand up to them..
